New Year with More Gema-Gema

It has been a while again, right...? I apologize about that.

Happy New Year to eveyrone and to continue, if a little late and in the new year, the second Gema-Gema chapter.

The previous year was a little difficult and I was a bit sick at various points of the year, but now that I'm better, let's continue with more things little by little.

In that time the new Di Gi Charat Mini-Anime released and finished airing earlier this month, did any of you watch it?

There we have the first proper presentation of Dejiko, this chapter being from the August of 1998 issue of  "FROM GAMERS" according to official sources.

In relation to it, Chapter 1 was included on the first issue from July of 1998, while Dejiko didn't appear on it, she was as in a little illustration on the front page alongside with Gema:

In that first issue there's a part of the magazine dedicated to the "King of Fighers '98" or "KOF '98".

Worth noting apart from the mention of Iori Yagami from that series on this chapter, one could said that Dejiko is still a fain of him from various of the episodes of "Dejiko's Youtube Corner" from the Official Reiwa no Di Gi Charat YouTube channel.

As Dejiko herself says in one of them, it can't be anything but fate.

One of the Iori Yagami appearances on the YouTube channel

To end with the chapters notes again as on the previous release, we can see Dejiko's famous '~nyo~' it's still a bit different here, it's written here with katakana (〜ニョ) instead of the later and nowdays famous with hiragana (にょ).

As for the part describing Gema can also could have the part as in "Familiar" but there wasn't much space, so I left it as "Servant Spirit". Finally the "Ani・・te" is a probably a small reference joke to the competitor's "Animate"(アニメイト) stores.

I still only have  the website versions from Broccoli for most of these, so if anyone has access to them in a higher quality or the magazines and would like to help with them in a better quality, please contact me, it'll be very helpful.

That's everything for today, again Happy New Year 2023 to everyone and I hope to see you all again this year.

Thanks for reading.

GemaGema Anniversary ~gema~

Today, with the first release for this blog, we have the first Gema-Gema or GemaGema.

This is a 4Koma manga that was originally launched on the "FROM GAMERS" magazine on 1998, made by Koge-Donbo (now Koge-Donbo*), debuting the Di Gi Charat characters that became the mascots of the Broccoli company "GAMERS" stores. The 4Koma ran on the magazine until it  ceased publications on 2019.

As you can expect normally from Di Gi Charat, the 4Koma it's comedy driven with everyday life things twisted up with the peculiar characters cast alongside references to the magazines content or related to them sometimes.

As a little thing on some of my free time I have decided to translate this 4Komas to commemorate the 24th Anniversary of Di Gi Charat this year. Not sure how often I'll update this, but I'll try to do them all, however I'll admit the hand written Kanjis give me a bit of a headache to undestand them at times.

If you think it'll be interesting to see the evolution of the 4Koma and the characters among the years, give these a look.

Some later media incluiding the original Di Gi Charat (Wonderful) and Di Gi Charat Nyo animes makes reference to some things that appeared on these 4Komas. Incluiding this very first one, with an scene of episode 15 "PARTY NIGHT" of the original 1999 anime referencing this first chapter in one of the scenes of the song.

Don't mess up with Gema?

To note about this specific detail. I plan to include the ~gema~, ~nyo~, etc; when used on the original if there's enough space to include them. However, this one doesn't have any ~gema~'s... Well, curiously enough both Gema and Dejiko didn't use these on their very first appearances.

Sadly I only have the Broccoli website versions of these, so if you have access to better quality RAWs of any of these or the magazines and would like to help me with those better RAWs, please contact me.

See you later.
